The Bishop of Military Ordinariate, Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a led the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) fraternity in a requiem mass for the late Lieutenant Colonel (Fr ) Calistus Kioko Waema at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.
Bishop Ng’ang’a eulogized the Late Lt Col (Fr) Waema as a committed spiritual leader who administered the troops in peace time, close and deep operations with great zeal and dedication.
“I praise the late priest for his spiritual contribution and great service he rendered to Kenya. I urge you all to remember the good values and teachings Lt Col (Fr) Waema taught you. Truly he has left a legacy of a shepherd and great soldier,” he said.
Brigade Commander Construction Engineers, Brigadier Joseph Mutua noted that KDF is mourning the loss of a great priest who will be remembered by many for his exemplary devotion.
In their tribute, Military Ordinariate of Kenya fraternity praised the late Lt Col (Fr) Kioko as a bold and courageous priest and ambassador of peace and hope. A humble and down to earth, yet tough and strict man, underscoring a rare mixture of socialization and sense of duty.
The late Lt Col (Fr ) Waema was ordained as a priest in 1998 and later joined the KDF as a specialist cadet in 2003 where he was commissioned and joined the Military Ordinariate of Kenya. Until his demise, he was serving as a military Chaplain at 17 Kenya Rifles, Modika.
The Late Lt Col (Fr) Waema will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 29 January 2025 in Machakos.
