There was pomp and jubilation at the Kenya Armed Forces Training College (KAFTEC) on Friday (22 Sept 2006) as the college held its annual graduation ceremony which was attended by the incoming Chief of Defence Forces, Gen JW Karangi as the Guest of Honor. The guest of honor awarded diplomas and certificates to successful officers and servicemen/women in various technical courses attended at the college. Also present during the graduation parade was the former Kenya Air Force Commander, Maj Gen Tangai; the then Kenya Navy Commander, Maj Gen Awita; ACGS P&L,the then GOC Westcom, Maj Gen Opiyo; the then AFTC Commandant, Maj Gen Mwanzia; SDS (KAF); Maj Gen Njeru; the College Commandant, Col Gichuiya; senior officers, officers, family members and friends.
It was a graduation ceremony with a difference as the graduands unveiled an electronic score card they had made as part of their final project. The scoreboard will be used in future Armed Forces Sports events to update spectators and teams on scores. It will replace the manual and laborious system currently in use. The Guest of Honor commended the effort as part of practical training to solve real problems and challenged them to continue.
The graduation ceremony marked the end of a three years training programme at the college. Students were awarded Kenya National Examination Council Diplomas various disciplines including Aeronautical Engineering (Airframes, Engines & Avionics); Instrumentation and Control Engineering; Electronic Engineering; Telecommunication Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Mechanical Engineering (Plant and Production Option) and Computer Technology.
The guest of honor congratulated the graduands and wished them success in their careers as Technicians.
